Victorian Local Government Elections 2005: 2004 |
|
ACHIEVEMENT: The City of Melbourne uses a minimum of 30% accredited Green Power for its operations.
| TARGET DATE: June 2003 |
PROGRESS: Achieved. |
DESCRIPTION: 'Accredited Green Power' is a renewable energy source from nationally accredited generators. This achievement requires the City of Melbourne to source at least 30% of its own power requirements from accredited green power. Although the Federal Government has allowed the burning of woodchips to be included in their definition of renewable energy, under a policy I introduced, the City of Melbourne has resolved not to source any of its power requirements from the burning of woodchips. See Green Achievement Refuse Power Generation Sourced From Burning Woodchips.
The City of Melbourne currently sources 30% of its street lighting requirements from Green energy.
FURTHER INFORMATION: At my instigation, the City of Melbourne has joined Community Power, which provides a new avenue for residents ad businesses to source their power from renewable energy. See Green Achievement Adopt Community Power Green Energy.
