ACHIEVEMENT: An Open garden scheme has been run to showcase the best city apartment gardens above 10m. The top ten high level gardens have been photographed and are on the City website.
| TARGET DATE: December 2003 |
PROGRESS: Some. |
DESCRIPTION: The Open Garden
I will contact the Open Garden organisers in January 2003 to engage them in the idea. I will put forward the Best High Garden as a Notice of Motion in February 2003.
I have ensured that the new Council offices for Melbourne City Council will include a rooftop garden, so the profile of high gardens can be promoted in the future by the Council. Rooftop gardens have been found to be capable of contributing significantly to reductions in heating and cooling costs, and are also a good means of improving workplace conditions.
FURTHER INFORMATION: This idea was initiated by Harry Barber, Greens Lord Mayoral Candidate in 2001.
