ACHIEVEMENT: Five streets with central medians or kerbside spaces have been planted with native plants to rival the European elm tree avenues.
| TARGET DATE: July 2004 |
PROGRESS: Ongoing. |
DESCRIPTION: Ongoing.
Melbourne has some fantastic exotic and native avenues of trees. This goal is aimed at producing five new native avenues or kerbside spaces that will increase the planting diversity and biodiversity of the City and that the people of Melbourne will be proud of.
Decisions on public plantings in the City of Melbourne will be guided by 'Growing Green'. As Growing Green has not been finally adopted by the full Council, no progress has been made to date on native avenues. If changes are to be made in any area, public consultation on the change will need to be done to ensure the City is reflecting what the community wants for its open spaces.
