WHAT IS THIS THESIS ABOUT?

This site is the home of David Risstrom's Doctoral Thesis as it is being written. I am doing my studies with the University of Melbourne Political Science Department, Melbourne, Australia.

The thesis considers the history of the Australian Greens and its potential trajectory and influence.  This will provide background to an examination of the environmental, social and political challenges facing the planet and its inhabitants, in order to identify how individuals and societies might respond to them, particularly in the political decisions they make.

I have been a member of the Australian Greens for over 10 years, was an elected Greens Melbourne City Councillor for over five years, was Vice President of the International Council For Local Environment Initiatives and stood as a Greens Federal Senate Candidate in 2004. As a means of navigating the exigencies of specialisation in response to multidisciplinary environmental and social issues, I have completed degrees in science, arts and law. This thesis aims to continue that work so that it can be applied to begin to realistically respond to the social, environmental and political challenges the planet will likely face much sooner than we wish.

WHY IS THIS THESIS ONLINE

I have put my thesis online as a work in progress because I want you to be involved in the ideas it considers, and to ask you to add to them.

Please remember that this is a work in progress and that as a consequence the writing will be incomplete. Please do not reproduce any of this thesis without permission or use in in a form that does not represent it as work in progress.
