ACHIEVEMENT: Cafe Canine, a meeting place for dogs and their human accessories to meet and enjoy canine comradeship over a coffee or two is established in the City of Melbourne.
| TARGET DATE: December 2003 |
PROGRESS: None to date. |
DESCRIPTION: A Cafe Canine would cater for those folk who enjoy the company of canines and would like a relaxed space where they can sit and have a cup of coffee while they and their dogs socialise.
Manhattan has an interesting equivalent, where the City provides designated areas for dogs to run together off leash in a contained area. Cafe Canine would add a Melbourne touch by incorporating coffee drinking and phenomenological discussion on just about anything.
I think Cafe canine would be best placed in an area near to a park where there is already a good deal of dog walking going on.
I think it would be best for Cafe Canine to be accessible free of charge, with operating costs covered or contributed to by the coffee shop.
PROGRESS: I will put this forward as a Notice of Motion in the March Environment Community and Cultural Development Committee of Melbourne City Council, or consider whether it is appropriate to be included in the 50 year plan, Growing Green, I and MCC's Parks and Recreation Department initiated for our parks and gardens.
FURTHER INFORMATION: This idea was inspired by a conversation over a coffee in Block Arcade, Melbourne with Maire Sheehan, Mayor of Leichardt, NSW, and Rosa the Melbourne City Council Policy Watchdog. Leichardt has established a Cafe Bone. The Melbourne establishment, Cafe Canine, would, of course, serve better coffee!

Cool Green Tip Of The Week -
23 April 2017: Only those who decline to scramble up the career ladder are interesting as human beings. Nothing is more boring than a man with a career: Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago 1918 -1956.
