NATIVE ANIMAL BOXES

ACHIEVEMENT: Native Animal Boxes are commonplace in the City of Melbourne.

TARGET DATE: June 2004 PROGRESS: Some.

DESCRIPTION: Promote and/or distribute animal boxes that are designed to encourage native animals to live in the city, that was once theirs. The animals boxes could be designed with help from a grant or prize provided to a Zoology student at one of the city's universities.

Some progress was made by recognising the value of native flora and fauna in the Growing Green policy I navigated through Council. A lot more needs to be done.

FURTHER INFORMATION: This idea was again stimulated while working on this site in my bedroom some 54 metres from a sleeping possum colony living in a box nearby, while watching a fantastic 'claymation' film called 'Possum's Rest'

Cool Green Tip Of The Week - 22 February 2010: What is the use of a house if you haven't got a tolerable planet to put it on?: Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862).
