ACHIEVEMENT: The City of Melbourne allocates one million dollars each year to bicycles.
| TARGET DATE: July 2004. |
PROGRESS: Achieved. |
DESCRIPTION: Transport infrastructure has historically been to support motor vehicle traffic, often with indifference to other forms of lower impact transport such as walking or bicycle riding. This goal is to secure a million dollar allocation for bicycles in the Council's budget.
I amended the City of Melbourne's 2004/5 budget to include a one million commitment to bicycle infrastructure and projects for the following two years. The amendment was accepted by Council and endorsed at its Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee and Council meeting on 27 May 2004. The budget will go out for community consultation and is expected to be finally endorsed on 24 June.
FURTHER INFORMATION: The budget was accepted with expenditure of $1.2 million for bicycle infrastructure this year.
