DAVID RISSTROM'S NOMINATION FOR ACF COUNCILLOR

Candidates are asked to provide up to 200 words in support of their application. A copy of my nomination is available as pdf download (64 Kb) by clicking David Risstrom's ACF Council Nomination and is reproduced below.

_______________

I am restanding for ACF Council. Having a long-standing interest in environmental and social issues, I hope to continue to contribute to ACF.

Since being elected as a Green to Melbourne City Council in 1999, I have facilitated a Zero Net Greenhouse Gas program, the most ambitious water conservation targets in Australia, a $5M Sustainable Melbourne Fund, introduced Triple Bottom Line governance, established the Metropolitan Environment Forum, a 50 year environmental management plan, a $1M social housing company and facilitated development of a $74 million Green Council building. More details are at: http://www.davidrisstrom.org.

As Executive member of the International Council for Local Environment Initiatives, which administers Australia’s most successful local government greenhouse and water campaigns, I have aimed to increase local government involvement with ACF, though need to do more.

On behalf of the VNPA, I successfully campaigned for creation of the Alpine National Park and legal recognition of wilderness in Victoria. I have degrees in science, arts and law, focussing on climate change, environmental law, politics and social theory. I practice as a barrister, have worked as a Senior Senate Researcher, consultant to the Commonwealth EPA and the Australian Centre for Environmental Law. I support over twenty community organisations.

Yours sincerely,

David Risstrom
Barrister-at-Law
